73, I am 75 years old, new to ham radio and having just tons of fun learning something new all of the time. I passed my technician test the end of March 2019 and bought myself a Yaesu hand held and an Icom ID-5100, a D-Star mobile 2m-70cm radio. The end of May 2019 I passed my general test and about a month later bought a used Kenwood hf base radio, then a used Icom hf base radio, and a manual antenna tuner. I do not recommend buying used radio equipment on ebay since none of them were any good. I then bought a new IC-718 hf base radio and it works very good. I highly recommend it to anyone needing a starter radio. I also have a MFJ-962D Inductor antenna tuner, recommended to me by Bruce W2BTC, and it also works very good. My 40' tower is finally up thanks to the help of Mike Harding who did most of the work because of my health. At the present time I am using an OCF Dipole antenna, a Diamond X510HDM 2m 70 cm antenna with the following spec's gain: 2m 8.3db, 70cm 11.7db, Max Power: 2M 330 watts 70cm 250 watts and a 20m hex beam. I went skydiving on my 75th birthday, That was a real blast!
